Social interactivity offered by different Online Communities:

The diagram looks at the key players in the different online community markets that are assessed above and summarises the types of interaction they offer.  There are two important evolutionary developments that can be seen in Figure 4.  Online communities have moved from offering text based interaction to both graphical and symbolic interaction.   Online communities today, especially MMOGs and MMOSGs, offer a greater wealth of social interaction.  This has increased the competitiveness of online communities from their beginnings in 1978 to today.  The subject or gaming focus of online communities has also evolved, into one that embraces the development of communities itself via social interaction; where community itself is the focus for competitive development.
